Philadelphia Talent Dividend Partnership Makes Call to Action

Local organizations are encouraged to submit their best programs for attracting and retaining talented employees

The Greater Philadelphia Talent Dividend Partnership (GPTDP) today made a call to action for local businesses to submit their best programs for attracting and retaining talented employees to its Regional Challenges competition.  Developed by a number of regional leaders, the Challenge competition will recognize the efforts of Philadelphia businesses, higher education, public sector and non-profit institutions that increase access, persistence, completion and overall post-secondary educational attainment for area residents.  Applications for the Regional Challenges will be accepted through June 30, 2013, with winners being announced at an event planned for the first week of September 2013.

Application information for the Regional Challenges can be found at: http://talentgreaterphilly.org/strategies/

The Talent Dividend Partnership and Regional Challenges were grown out of the CEOs for Cities’ Talent Dividend Initiative.  A recent report released by the Talent Dividend Initiative shows that 58% of a metro region’s economic success is directly tied to the educational attainment of its residents.  The Regional Challenges will give organizations a chance to showcase their work in retaining talented employees centered on three categories: Business Community, Collaboration and Higher Education.

Business Community Honors: This award will be given out in two distinctions, one for small businesses and one for large business (100+ employees), and will honor companies that foster continued employee education.  Businesses interested in entering should have demonstrated success in increasing the number of their own employees pursuing or attaining a college or post-secondary degrees, as well as supporting the retention of graduates from Philadelphia colleges and universities, ensuring that college graduates stay in Philadelphia.

Higher Education Community Honor:  This award will highlight the programs and practices implemented by colleges and universities that deliver positive impacts on student degree completion. Colleges and universities interested in entering should have a positive track record in helping students gain access to college, stay in college, and graduate from college.  Post-secondary institutions that are helping to ensure on-time graduation of students, as well as those enabling non-traditional students to re-enter post-secondary education and complete a degree are also encouraged to apply.

Collaboration Honor:  This award will honor a multi-partner collaboration that includes business, higher education, and/or non-profit partners that have worked together to instill a positive impact on the number of students going to college, staying in college, and/or graduating from college.  Both long-standing and new collaborations are welcome to apply. The goals of the collaboration must aim to ensure on-time graduation, support non-traditional students to re-enter post-secondary education and complete a degree, or increase post-secondary enrollment of Greater Philadelphia residents.

Applications for the Regional Challenges must be submitted to info@talentgreaterphilly.org by June 30, 2013.  Winners will be announces in the first week of September, 2013.  Organizations can either nominate themselves or be nominated by another organization.  Applications should be limited to no more than five pages, however, organizations may submit supplemental documents or appendices to illustrate supporting data.

About the Greater Philadelphia Talent Dividend Partnership:

The Greater Philadelphia Talent Dividend Partnership (GPTDP) is comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders from the Greater Philadelphia region who are dedicated to improving the educational attainment of our residents.  The GPTDP was formed in response to the CEOs for Cities Talent Dividend Prize, a national competition for a $1 million prize for the city that exhibits the greatest increase in the number of post-secondary degrees granted per one thousand population over a four-year period. This prize will be used to launch a national promotional campaign centered on talent development for the winning city.
