Genomes and Gene Expression for Teachers

This workshop will provide introductory material on genomes and gene expression. The speaker will highlight key concepts in genomics that will help you and your students understand things like:
• The relationship among DNA, genes and the genome
• What sequencing is and how the genome is sequenced
• Why sequencing provides useful information about humans and other organisms
• How gene expression is related to the genome
• Ways in which gene expression affects development and health

Hands-on classroom activities related to these concepts will be shared in this workshop, which will be led by Junhyong Kim, Co-Director of the Penn Genome Frontiers Institute and Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Term Endowed Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania.
