Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy Accepting Entries for Generous U Competition

The Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy at Brandeis University is accepting entries for the Generous U competition, a national contest aimed at increasing philanthropy and philanthropic values on college campuses in the United States.

Through the annual competition, student groups are invited to demonstrate a successful effort to engage a substantial number of their peers in charitable giving; increase philanthropic awareness and a culture of giving on their campuses; nurture the lifelong habit of charitable giving among their peers; and/or develop a philanthropic program model that can be replicated on other campuses. The competition will consider any organized activity intended to encourage charitable giving by students. Examples include giving campaigns, campus-wide challenges, giving circles, social networking efforts, social media initiatives, publications, and intercollegiate events. The competition is judged on YouTube and via essays submitted by college and graduate students. The winning entry will receive the $10,000 Sillerman Prize, while one runner-up will receive a prize of $2,500.

In addition to the cash prize, the honorary title of Generous U will be awarded to the winner’s college or university. A certificate, press kit, and plaque that may be kept on permanent display anywhere on campus will be provided by the Sillerman Center.

Student groups, clubs, and organizations, including Greek life associations (fraternities and sororities), are invited to submit an entry if they are formally recognized by their college or university and are chartered to accept the Sillerman Prize as an organized entity. (The prize cannot be awarded to an individual.)

See the Sillerman Center website for complete submission requirements, application materials, and FAQ, and the winners of previous competitions.

DEADLINE: MARCH 13, 2015
