Free publications from US Dept of Education

Greetings, and welcome to back-to-school time!

The following free items might help you for the beginning of the school year.

High School Counselor’s Handbook 2004-05: The 05-06 version will be available in November, but meanwhile, the 04-05 book can give you lots of information and ideas as you help students prepare to pay for college. For up to three copies, call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). For more than three copies, call 1-877-4-ED-PUBS (1-877-433-7827). If your school or program doesn’t usually receive a copy of the book automatically, call 1-800-394-7084 and request to be added to our mailing list. Members of the high school, TRIO, and GEAR UP mailing lists receive the book in November or December each year. (Note to GEAR UP programs: you need to request to be added to the list – if you didn’t last year, you should now.)

College Preparation Checklist: Explains what the student should do each year of high school to prepare for college. We’re creating a new version of this useful and very popular brochure, but it won’t be available until October. For now, use the current one, which you can order in bulk at http://www.edpubs.org/ml.

Don’t Get Stung!: This poster reminds students that the FAFSA application is FREE and that they can get free help from counselors, from financial aid offices, and from the Department of Education. Order at http://www.edpubs.org/ml.
