Civic Literacy? …. please read more…

I am sure you have seen Jeopardy? you can probably hum the theme?or perhaps you have watched the latest craze – Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? ? or one of those great late night talk show segments when they take to the streets & ask questions about government to everyday Americans.

How many times have you laughed, or just watched in awe, or perhaps even thought- ?I knew that? or ?I am so glad they didn?t ask me that question!?

Think about the following ?

You have heard the phrase, ?I?ll take the fifth?. But- do you really know what that offers us as American Citizens? Or- why it came to be? or what document in our American History it refers to?

Who is Lucretia Mott and what was her impact on America?

Do you know what the Philadelphia Constitution is called? Or what it contains?

The Institute for the Study of Civic Values is offering a free 6 week course on Civic Literacy? civic pride, if you will accept that phrase.

We will offer a historical perspective to the events that shaped our country and our city.

We will use a variety of materials including readings, films, special guest speakers and conversations to improve your knowledge of our great country- our city- rich in history- and best of all? to perhaps win a trivia game and get a HUGE prize!

The 6 week course will end just before Freedom Week (if you are wondering when and/or what that is? you need to join us) ? where we will host a special free Quizzo night for all our participants.

If you are ready to improve you Civic Knowledge and sign-up for our Classes— Commit to 1 night a week (either Monday or Wednesday) for 2 hours each class for just 6 weeks?. Just call Kelly Green or Holly Pester at 215-238-1434. Or- you
can e-mail us at hollypest@hotmail.com ASAP!!
