The AmeriCorps VISTA program asks individuals to give a year of service to fight poverty in a variety of ways. The program operates through the FIRST Robotics organization, a non-profit that organizes robotics competitions around the world for students K-12. ties. The FIRST AmeriCorps VISTA mission is to create and expand the vision of FIRST by working in areas that have been deemed underserved: lower socio-economic communities, rural areas, and areas that have little to no support or resources to be able to easily access STEM initiatives.

We are seeking someone to work at Penn’s GRASP Lab in Philadelphia to help expand and support underserved FIRST robotics teams in the Philadelphia, Camden, and Chester School Districts. By supporting teams, the AmeriCorps VISTA will develop and enhance recruitment, fundraising (Grant writing), communication, leadership, and education skills. As well as become part of a network of educational partnerships in the area and advocate for STEM learning in the community.

The VISTA program provides a stipend and an educational grant to all participants. There is significant opportunity to meet city educators, leaders, and granting organizations. This is a career building program that is perfect for a recent graduate not ready to enter the workforce.
