The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians is a nonprofit economic development organization serving people across the five-county Philadelphia metropolitan area. Our services include helping work-authorized immigrants find jobs and assisting small-business owners as they launch and build their businesses. Job Overview

The Employment Specialist works as part of a five-person Employment Department. This position requires extensive local travel (Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs). Primary responsibilities are to screen and place work-authorized immigrants in employment, and to identify and establish relationships with potential employers. Tasks include one-on-one meetings with jobseekers to conduct intake, assess skills, and discuss career goals.

The Employment Specialist has significant responsibility for making contact with potential employers to educate them about WCNP services, attending networking events, and researching local employment needs. It is expected that the Employment Specialist will spend approximately 60% of his/her time (3 days per week) outside of the office.

The Employment Specialist also arranges interviews for jobseekers, accompanies jobseekers to interviews, and in general serves as a liaison between employers and employees.

Qualifications:

Ability to work energetically and creatively to ensure that program participants receive the best possible services
Valid driver’s license and own car required (mileage reimbursement provided)
Interest in and commitment to working in a multicultural environment
Ability to work professionally and effectively with people of varying ages and skills
Ability to multitask
Excellent communication and people skills
Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
Bilingual skills (desirable but not required — especially Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, or French)
Business background a plus
Job counselor/job developer experience a plus
