Election Protection State Director

People For the American Way Foundation is a 600,000 member/supporter constitutional liberties organization. The Field Department mobilizes People For the American Way Foundation activists, organizational allies, and the public in grassroots programs to enhance civic participation among individuals and groups that have historically been shut out of the political process.

The Election Protection State Director is responsible for mobilizing a diverse coalition of organizations that work in concert with the national strategic partners to educate, turnout and protect voters. This position reports to the Deputy National Field Director. The Field Department is under the overall direction of the National Field Director.

Responsibilities
? Build a diverse coalition to implement the Election Protection program in Pennsylvania.
? Program components include voter education, voter turnout and voter protection activities.
? Recruit and manage volunteers.
? Assist in identifying communities with a history of voter disenfranchisement.
? Work with the press, including African American and other minority press, to disseminate information.
? Secure precinct maps, voting records and other data upon request.
? Recruit volunteers from college campuses, and other organizations to canvass communities, phone bank voters, monitor the polls and other activities.
? Assist in planning, coordinating and conducting training sessions for volunteers, activists, students and lawyers.
? Assist in recruiting volunteer lawyers for the legal hotline and to monitor the polls.
? Serve as the state spokesperson for press queries and assist with media events.
? Manage budget and provide bi-weekly financial reports.
? Provide documentation and evaluation of the program. The documentation will include samples of materials developed, photographs, video footage, audio recordings and news clips. The evaluation will include details about the impact of the program on civic participation, types of problems at the polls, and contact lists (i.e. coalition members, lawyers, volunteers).

Qualifications
? At least two years of experience in election-related/civic participation programs.
? At least two years of program management and supervisory experience.
? At least two years of experience organizing/working with the grassroots, youth and the religious community; must have familiarity with the African American community and other communities of color.
? Strong communications, organizational and administrative skills.
? Must be familiar with the local political process and election officials.
? Must be able to develop effective work plans and organize multiple projects simultaneously.
? Must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and able to set and meet tight deadlines.
? Must be able to travel frequently when required.

Compensation: $3000 per month.
