THE COMMITTEE OF SEVENTY
ELECTION DAY 2005
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
TUESDAY, MAY 17th, 2005

The Committee of Seventy, Philadelphia?s leading political watchdog organization since 1904, is now recruiting volunteers for the Centennial Anniversary of our first poll watching effort, which took place in the spring of 1905. Although the electoral process has changed dramatically over the course of the last century, independent and genuinely non-partisan citizen oversight is still the most effective means of preventing fraud, protecting voting rights, and ensuring fair and accurate election results. Seventy?s Election Day volunteer program is a great Philadelphia tradition and it?s also the best way for you to demonstrate your commitment to fundamental rights and free elections. With 1681 polling places throughout the city, Seventy will need all the help we can get to effectively serve every neighborhood and handle potentially thousands of Election Day calls from Philadelphia voters. There are two ways for you can get involved and make a difference during the 2005 Primary Election:

In the OFFICE: answering telephone calls from voters, providing nonpartisan voting information, and documenting allegations of misconduct at polling places for field team investigation

In the FIELD: visiting polling places, providing information to election officials, investigating reports of Election Code and Voting Rights violations, and settling minor disputes

Prior experience is not necessary. All volunteers are required to attend one of the brief training seminars to be held in Seventy’s offices in May.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SERVING AS PART OF SEVENTY?S CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY POLL WATCHING PROGRAM, PLEASE CONTACT RYAN AT THE COMMITTEE OF SEVENTY – 215-557-3600 OR REGISTER DIRECTLY VIA OUR WEBSITE AT HTTP://WWW.SEVENTY.ORG
