National Academy of Education Invites Applications for Dissertation Fellowships

The National Academy of Education is inviting applications for its NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship Program.

The annual fellowship aims to strengthen research on education and learning by supporting early-career scholars from a wide range of fields. Each year, the program funds a small group of outstanding advanced doctoral candidates so that they can devote themselves full-time to the completion of their dissertation.

Through the program, fellowship stipends of $27,500 will be awarded to individuals whose dissertations show potential for bringing fresh and constructive perspectives to the history, theory, analysis, or practice of formal or informal education anywhere in the world. In addition to the stipend, fellows participate in two professional development retreats, receive dissertation writing support, and are provided opportunities to expand their networks, build their research and career skills, and support their transition into a professional role. In 2019, thirty-five fellowships will be awarded.

Applicants may be a doctoral candidate in any field so long as their dissertation topic centrally relates to education and shows promise of contributing to the understanding of the history, theory, or practice of education.

Note that the dissertation fellowship is intended to support the writing of the dissertation during the last year(s) of doctoral work and cannot be used during the data-collection phase of the dissertation.

NAEd will be hosting a webinar for interested applicants on September 4, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. ET.

The program is open to candidates for a doctoral degree at any graduate institution in the United States. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply as long as they are a candidate for a doctoral degree at a graduate school in the United States.

See the NAEd website for complete program guidelines, application instructions, a list of past fellows, and to register for the webinar.

Deadline: October 3, 2019
