Education & Career Connections Program for youth

Posted by EDSI Solutions on October 6, 2020

Education & Career Connections (ECC) program. ECC is a WIOA Youth program serving 16-24-year-old Philadelphia residents who do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent. The goals of the ECC program are to help eligible participants earn their GED or HiSET in as soon as 90 days, complete a virtual work experience, and connect them to post-secondary opportunities or enter employment.

GED/HiSET preparation is done nine hours per week with a master’s level teacher from the Community Learning Center who is the literacy partner for the program. The teacher will tutor participants in Math, Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Office hours will also be available for additional support.

Participants will also earn a weekly stipend by completing a virtual work experience in Customer Service, Healthcare, Information Technology, Manufacturing, or Construction. Our program partner BuildED will also offer a virtual work experience opportunity in Entrepreneurship and provide financial literacy through their “CEO of Your Own Career” series.

Additionally, participants will receive career readiness training, complete a resume, participate in mock interviews, learn about the college admissions process, learn about and complete the FAFSA, learn about training programs that lead to an industry recognized credential, and receive support from career advisors.

Once participants have earned their GED/HiSET and completed the paid work experience our career advisors will help them transition to post-secondary options, enroll in a registered apprenticeship, or enter employment. Support services and incentives are available to encourage the completion of program goals.
