NewSchools Venture Fund Invites Applications for Pre-K-12 Learning Initiatives

Through NewSchools Invent, the NewSchools Venture Fund invests in teams of educators who want to launch new, innovative public schools that prepare young people to finish high school prepared and inspired to create and live good lives, full of opportunity, choices, connection, and meaning.

To that end, the fund is inviting applications from teams of educators who are committed to launching an innovative public school and would benefit from additional support. Through the program, grants of $200,000 will be awarded to support a planning period of up to fourteen months before school launch for future schools that reimagine the learning experience for students, particularly those from underserved communities. At the end of the planning phase, teams may apply for an investment that would support their first two to three years of operation. Grantees also will be eligible to participate in an active community of practice that enables them to build relationships with and learn from peer organizations from across the country, as well as management assistance.

To be eligible, applicants must plan to launch their first or second public school (charter or district) in the fall of 2021; plan to enroll students on the PK-12 grade span on a full-time basis; and be eligible to receive public funding. Charter applicants must have or be working toward 501(c)(3) status. District applicants must have a formal letter of endorsement from the school board and superintendent; have or be working toward an agreement that ensures the school will have necessary academic and operational autonomies as well as facilities and funding support; and have identified key members of the school leadership team.

See the New Schools Venture Fund for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
