Rising Sun Children’s Center
Position: Director of child care center
Location: Rising Sun Children’s Center, 5224 Rising Sun Avenue, Philadelphia

Fair Labor Standards Act Wage Classification: non-exempt

Accountable to: Korean Community Development Services Center Board of Directors

Accountable for:
§ group supervisors, assistant group supervisors, aides, administrators
§ all aspects of the child care program, Keystone Star program, and Pre-K Counts program
§ general maintenance and finance of the child care facility

Educational/Experience Requirements: Director must have the following as per Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare regulations and Keystone Star Program for child care centers:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in General Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field including 30 ECE credits.
2. PA Childcare Director Certificate is required to achieve within one year from the employment.

Annual Training Required: 24 annual clock hours of training based on the PDR and to include Pediatric First Aid, child observation, mandated reporter training, common illnesses in child care and others as required for Keystone Stars.

Qualifications:
Physical
§ Must be able to lift 40 lbs multiple times daily.
§ Vision corrected to at least 20/100 in each eye.
§ Hearing in normal/average range for adults.
§ Flexibility and able to get up and down from the floor or other awkward positions quickly and independently
§ Able to move, walk, stretch, run, reach, jump as needed.
§ Able to stand and be on your feet for extended periods of time.
§ Fine motor skills sufficient for cutting, printing neatly, doing puzzles and stringing beads and squeezing medicine droppers.

Mental
§ Speak, read and write English proficiently.

Professional
§ Member of a professional organization

Interpersonal
§ Relate well with other adults
§ Relate well with children
§ Speak clearly and understandably

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Educational/Curriculum
§ Oversee overall program planning and curriculum development.
§ Coordinate and plan daily activities with the group supervisors and assistant group supervisors.

Management
§ Administer finances, personnel, maintenance, meal planning and preparation.
§ Administer the facilities’ program objectives and activities
§ Designate a staff person who is responsible for compliance with all regulations in the Director’s absence.

Parent
§ Establish and maintain rapport and constructive communication with all families of children in the program.
§ Plan for and support staff in conducting parent conferences.
§ Provide information and feedback to parents about program and activities of the center activities.
§ Communicate with parents about their particular needs and concerns.

Licensing
§ Maintain staff-child ratios to meet DPW regulations at all times
§ Handles all aspects of program and care for children in a manner consistent with DPW regulations.

Social Service Related
§ Provide additional resource and contact information as needed.

Meal/Nutrition
§ Oversee the meal program and maintain good nutrition and health standards.

Health and Safety
§ Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
§ Do regular safety checks of classroom and also of playground.
§ Maintain a properly stocked first aid kit at all times.
§ Administer routine first aid and provide required accident reports for the office and also for the parents.

Playground
§ Oversee the maintenance of DPW required staff child ratios on the playground at all times.
§ Plan and maintain the playground to support a variety of stimulating and age appropriate experiences on the playground to promote skill growth and development of all children.
§ Oversee general playground maintenance and delegate responsibilities for same.

Janitorial/Maintenance
§ Oversee the maintenance and janitorial needs of the program and facility.
§ Arrange for maintenance as needed.

Other
§ Perform other duties as required/requested by the board and as needed for the program.
