Development Position Announcement

Founded in 1989, Princeton AlumniCorps (formerly Princeton Project 55) is an independent alumni-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that inspires and builds civic leadership among alumni across generations by engaging in activities that influence and improve our society. Our current programs place recent graduates in nonprofit fellowships, provide professional nonprofit development and leadership training, engage alumni in substantive volunteer opportunities, and mobilize other universities to do similar work. These programs operate in NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Fairfield County, CT, and the greater Princeton area. Princeton AlumniCorps currently has a five-person professional staff, a highly engaged Board of Directors, more than 200 volunteers in cities across the country, and four programs with an annual budget of approximately $450K.

Position Overview and Responsibilities
Princeton AlumniCorps is seeking a dynamic individual to guide, support, and facilitate fundraising and outreach efforts for our organization. Title (Development Officer or Development Director) and salary will be determined based on previous experience. This position will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Executive Director and the Development Steering Group.

Development
• Plan, organize, and implement an integrated and comprehensive annual development plan in collaboration with Executive Director and Board of Directors
o Develop cultivation/solicitation goals, strategies, and timelines; evaluating results and adjusting strategies on an on-going basis
o Write appeals and proposals, and develop supporting materials
o Work collaboratively with Executive Director, board, staff, and volunteers to support, foster, and leverage their involvement in fundraising efforts
• In conjunction with Board and Executive Director, establish long-range (3-5 year) development planning with interim objectives to aid in tracking progress
• Coordinate and grow foundation support, including identification and research, cultivation, grant writing, reporting, and tracking
• Oversee endowment fundraising efforts including individual gifts and planned giving.
• Oversee and train staff on the Raiser’s Edge and NetCommunity software
o Determine and oversee data entry practices
• Help to manage and support the Development Steering Group (DSG), Princeton AlumniCorps’ fundraising committee
• Prepare progress reports for committee and board meetings

Outreach and Communications
• Serve on the Communications Committee to help develop a comprehensive communications plan that will support resource development and further Princeton AlumniCorps’ mission
• Manage the creation of branded fundraising collateral pieces, including, but not limited to, appeals and supporting materials, newsletters, website, and other as needed
• Lead development of content and design for annual report, in conjunction with Communications Committee
• Ensure that Princeton AlumniCorps’ brand and messaging are consistent across platforms
• Coordinate the production and distribution of Shared Effort, Princeton AlumniCorps’ quarterly newsletter
• Work with program staff, Executive Director, and volunteers to organize local and national outreach and fundraising events
• Be a positive representative of Princeton AlumniCorps in the community and help create institutional
visibility

Finance
• Maintain guidelines and policies for the acceptance, valuation, recording, acknowledgment, and
stewardship of gifts
• Ensure that donor reporting requirements are met, including foundation stewardship materials and reports
o Create and implement donor recognition opportunities
o Track gifts against pledges and challenge grants
o Work with treasurer, finance committee, executive director and accountant on audits and
reconciliations as needed

General
• Manage development interns
• Take on additional projects and responsibilities as requested
• Participate in general staff tasks

Skills and Qualifications
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Adept with building and maintaining relationships
• 2- 8 years of professional experience in the field of development and outreach
• Demonstrated success in securing gifts and grants from individuals and foundations
• Strong attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
• Flexibility and creativity
• Strong grasp of multi-platform marketing and communicating strategies for diverse audiences
• Comfortable interacting with wide variety of constituents
• Sense of humor
• Steadiness under pressure
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new technology
• Comfortable working in a small office environment as part of a diverse team
• Commitment to Princeton AlumniCorps’ mission and vision for civic leadership
• Experience with Blackbaud software a plus
• Event planning experience a plus
• B.A./B.S.

Applicants should be willing to make a two-year commitment. Ideally, this is a full-time position, but we may consider part-time arrangements. Occasional travel is required, as is attendance at quarterly board meetings.

Salary
Starting salary range is $40,000-$60,000 depending on previous experience, with potential for increase in
subsequent years. Compensation for full-time employees includes medical and dental insurance, retirement
benefits, 20 days of paid time off, and generous holidays.

Location
The position is located in the Princeton AlumniCorps office at 12 Stockton Street in Princeton, NJ.
