Creating Safe and Welcoming Schools Conference at Arcadia Univeristy

Are you an educator who wants to learn how to create safe and welcoming schools for diverse K-12 students? Have you been successful in creating safe spaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/ gender nonconforming, and questioning/queer (LGBTQ) individuals in your K-12 school?
Are you a member of your high school Gay Straight Alliance? Are you considering starting one? Would you like to be an ally? Are you ready to be an “up-stander”?
Are you a parent raising children who do not conform to the gender box or who may be wondering about their sexual orientation? Do you want to learn how to collaborate with your children’s school?
Act 48 Credits available.

If you answer YES to any of these questions, this conference is for you!

Arcadia University School of Education is proud to take the lead one more time in raising the bar on inclusive education.  Join us for a day of thoughtful collaboration, conversations, best practices, and personal stories.

Come to Arcadia University on March 22, 2013, for a day of strengthening communities, among educators, students, and families.  A day about creating welcoming and affirming spaces for all students to be who they truly are. Open. Out. Involved. Safe. Proud. Together we can build strong school communities free of bullying, harassment, and torment for all students, families, and allies.
Tentative Schedule

Registration and Light Breakfast: 8 a.m.
Welcome and Introductory Remarks: 8:30–9:10 a.m.
LGBTQ K-12 Faculty Panel: 9:15–10:30 a.m.
Break: 10:30–10:40 a.m.
Concurrent Sessions: 10:45–11:40 a.m.
Lunch: 11:45 a.m.–12:40 p.m.
Concurrent Sessions: 12:45–1:40 p.m.
Break: 1:45–1:50 p.m.
LGBTQ Youth Voices Panel: 1:50–2:50 p.m.
Closing Remarks: 2:50–3 p.m.

Fees

$30 for Professionals, Family members, Allies
$30 for Non-Arcadia College Students
$15 for High School Students
$50 Walk-ins (Space cannot be guaranteed)
Free of charge to Arcadia students and members of the Arcadia community (Advanced Registration is Required)

Fees include light breakfast, lunch, and afternoon light snack. Act 48 Credits available.

Registration

To guarantee a place in the conference, please register by March 15, 2013. Arcadia Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni: Registration is REQUIRED by March 15 to ensure a place, even though there is no charge. Full refund available until March 15.
