Mt. Airy, USA (MAUSA), one of Philadelphia’s most dynamic community development corporations, is seeking a Controller. Mt. Airy, USA’s mission is to improve the quality of life for Mt. Airy residents through responsive community development. With 10 employees and an annual budget of approximately $1 million, our organization focuses on four core areas: real estate development, including commercial, retail, and residential construction and rehab; commercial corridor revitalization; housing counseling; and neighborhood programming and services. Mt. Airy, USA is based in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, long known as a pioneering and sustainable urban neighborhood that is racially and economically diverse.

The Controller is responsible for all financial management matters of MAUSA and its three affiliate organizations. The Controller will report to and work closely with the Executive Director. In addition, s/he will partner with the senior leadership and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies across the organization. The Controller will oversee all compliance and recognition for government (federal and state) contracts and private grants. S/he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace. The Controller will also handle MAUSA’s basic bookkeeping functions. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTROLLER

– Contribute to strategic planning and development

– Lead development of the annual budget, audit report and Form 990 schedule

– Prepare organization for annual consolidated audit as well as grantor audits

– As part of the development team, develop financial controls and participate in decision-making on financing structures for development deals, including tax credits, private equity and debt

– Ensure financial management procedures are appropriate for organization and recommend changes to Executive Director as necessary

– Ensure Compliance with and submission of government contract invoices

– Prepare monthly invoices for MAUSA tenants and track payment

– Bookkeeping and Accounting:

* Monthly closings, cost allocations and financial statement preparation

* Prepare quarterly financial reports for board of director meetings

* Debt management

* Cash management

* Cash flow management

* Grant budget management and reporting

* Prepare weekly payable reports and manage invoices

* Prepare bank deposits

* Record and track all financial accounts and invoices; reconcile and balance accounts

* Prepare payroll on a bi-weekly basis

* Bank reconciliations

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

* Minimum of 3 – 5 years experience in accounting, finance and fiscal management

* Experience with non-profit financial accounting, grant management and government contract reporting and compliance highly desired

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to be self-starting, think creatively and meet tight deadlines

* Proficiency in Quickbooks

* Detail-oriented with good prioritization and organizational skills
