Title: Community Planning Fellow

Job Summary:
West Philadelphia High School is scheduled to get a new building. In June of 2005 a planning process began to engage the community in the design of the new school. Seven months of community meetings have resulted in a set of recommendations for the new school and Sustainability Circle has been formed to ensure that the recommendations are implemented. The Community Planning Fellow will assist the Sustainability Circle in this work. He or she will engage additional stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, and community members) in the planning process. The Fellow will also gather research, build partnerships, and assist the community in working with architects who will be designing the new school.

Responsibilities:
? Engaging additional stakeholders in the planning process;
? Assisting the community in working with the architects of record;
? Supporting the Sustainability Circle in creating the educational plan for the new school and in building educational partnerships;
? Researching and collecting data that will support the process;
? Organizing and meeting with Sustainability Circle subcommittees;
? Supporting the Sustainability Circle in communicating with general public and on-going recruitment efforts;
? Documenting the planning process and creating monthly reports on the Sustainability Circle?s progress; and
? Other duties as assigned

Duration: 12 months

Participant Expectations: Attend Sustainability Circle meetings, subcommittee meetings and surrounding community groups. Work up to 32 hours per month including researching community resources, data gathering, follow-ups, networking and communications

Compensation: Stipend (amount TBD)
