Although teens have the lowest seat belt use rates and highest crash risk of any age group, few examples of well designed community-based interventions to increase seat belt use among teens are available in the peer-reviewed literature. This proposal will fund the implementation and evaluation of one or more multi-component community-based interventions to increase seat belt use among adolescent drivers and their passengers.

The type of funding mechanism: Cooperative Agreement

Eligible applicants include public and private profit and nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, research institutions, hospitals, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, Indian tribal governments and organizations, and state and local governments. To be eligible for this RFA, the principal investigator must have conducted community-based intervention research and published the findings in a peer-reviewed journal or technical report.

Eligible principal investigators: Any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed injury research as outlined above is invited to work with their institution to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for CDC programs.
