Communications and Marketing Interns, Institute for Global Education and Service Learning

The Institute for Global Education & Service Learning is seeking two part time Interns in the areas of Communications and Marketing. Applicants may be graduate or undergraduate students. These intern positions are unpaid and will require 5-10 hours per week.

The Institute for Global Education and Service Learning (IGESL), a non-profit organization established in 1991, works with schools, higher education institutions, National Service Programs, and organizations across the country interested in establishing, improving, or expanding a service learning initiative. Training is provided to teachers, youth, Corps Members, administrators, and community based organization staff. In addition to training, the IGESL provides consultation services to support the development of service learning programs; assist adults and youth in assessing the effectiveness of service learning initiatives, and create resources to meet the specific needs of schools or organizations. The IGESL has served as host and co-host to state, regional, national, and international conferences.

Communications Internship Description and Responsibilities:
This intern will be responsible for multiple aspects of creating and supporting a state-wide network including: setting up and maintaining list-serves, establishing a web presence, developing promotional materials, public presentations, and creating an online newsletter.

Specifically;

•    Develop and maintain a list serve of Pennsylvania Service Learning practitioners (including k-12, higher education, and community based staff) and supporters (including non-profits, foundations, and business/corporate sponsors).
•    Develop and implement specific approaches for promoting the state-wide network and it’s resources including social media.
•    Assist with communications between Network Members, Advisory Board, PennSERVE: the Governor’s Office of Citizen Service, and the IGESL.

Marketing Internship Description and Responsibilities:
This intern will be responsible for multiple aspects of marketing non-profit services including: promotional materials, public presentations, advertising techniques, web presence, and managing social media.

Specifically;

•    Develop written and website-based promotional materials for IGESL activities, training offerings, resources, and charitable donations / solicitations.
•    Develop and implement specific approaches to marketing IGESL services and special events with an emphasis on outreach and website development.
•    Assist in promoting IGESL services to schools and organizations across the country.

Qualifications
•    Strong Verbal and Written Communication Skills
•    Excellent organizational abilities
•    Strong critical thinking skills
•    Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes
•    Basic Desktop Publishing and Website Management skills (e.g.: Microsoft Publisher, Adobe PageMaker / Photoshop, etc.)
•    Positive attitude, flexibility and problem solving mentality.

Supervision
Interns will be assisted, directed, and supervised by IGESL’s Executive Director.

Impact on Organization
Participation in these administrative internships will provide much needed assistance in vital areas of our non-profit organization and will help IGESL continue to move forward in “empowering learners of all ages to take an active role in improving their communities” at the state, local, and national levels.

Personal Outcomes
These internships will expose participants to several aspects of non-profit organizations specifically, marketing and communications administration. Direct “hands on” experience will be gained while developing an understanding of how marketing and communications function to support a non-profit organization. Opportunities to participate in IGESL Professional and Leadership Development initiatives will also be available.
