Communications and Community Outreach Internship Description
AccessMatters is the catalyst for providing access to sexual and reproductive health care for teens and adults in need reaching over 200,000 individuals annually. AccessMatters transforms access to sexual and reproductive health through research, training, delivery of evidenced-based programs, community engagement and advocacy.

AccessMatters is looking for a Communications and Community Outreach Intern to assist with day-to-day communications and community outreach needs including:
• Draft communications materials and content including: advocacy alerts, fact sheets, letters to the editor, content for organization’s website, social media sites and blogs.
• Maintain contact database including media and government relations contacts.
• Track relevant media coverage related to AccessMatters’ work.
• Assist with branding related tasks.
• Identify, schedule, and represent AccessMatters at information tables or through other outreach at community events in high-need communities.
• Attend other community events and meetings as needed including coalition meetings.
• Maintain email lists in customer relationship management software (Constant Contact) – training is provided.
• Conceptualize and implement a plan to build a volunteer corps for AccessMatters outreach activities.
• Maintain resource materials inventory.
• Assist with education and outreach activities around implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the Marketplace.
Applicants should possess the following skills and interests:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent research skills
• Knowledge of PC based computers
• Knowledge of HTML and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Comfortable working with diverse communities including the LGBT community, African American community, and Latino community.
• Interest in women’s health, LGBT issues, and sexual and reproductive health issues
• Well-versed in current social media platforms, especially Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, and Instagram

This unpaid internship can be full-time or part-time with the opportunity for academic credit. The position may require evening and weekend hours.
