College and Career Guidance Summer Internship Program

$1000 stipend plus transportation and
potential for AmeriCorps Education Award*

PHENND is currently recruiting 16 college students to build and support College and Career Guidance (CCG) Centers at eight local public high schools. Summer Interns will be paid a stipend of $1000 plus transportation for approximately 20 hours per week. The Internship will run 11 weeks, June 2 through August 15th. Summer interns will spend three days a week on site at a GEAR UP High School, one day a week in training, and one day a week completing paperwork and reports.**

All Summer Interns will:
– Order, arrange, and catalog CCG Center materials at one local high school including but not limited to:
o Financial aid
o Selecting a college
o Career Awareness
o Self-awareness
o Writing college essays
o Interviewing
o Resume Writing
? Develop training materials for students around the above topics

In addition, Summer Interns will work together to:
– Develop a ?speakers bureau? of adults who are willing to talk to students about college and career
– Work with higher ed and community partners to ensure participation in CCG
– Create a suggested reading list of inspirational books for students

Opportunities may be available for this work to continue during the school year.

*Depends on availability of awards and the completion of 300 hours of community service in one calendar year. Time spent during Internship would count toward the 300 hour requirement.

**Interns may opt for an Academic Internship which requires a research paper on some academic topic related to college attendance among low-income minority youth. PHENND will work with college faculty to ensure that this experience is awarded academic credit if desired.
