CALL FOR PROPOSALS

CUMU’s 19th Annual Conference: October 26-29, 2013 in Louisville, Kentucky
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities is seeking proposals for paper presentations, roundtable presentations, and poster presentations that are informative and relevant, provoke discussion, and encourage opportunities for learner replication. Special emphasis should be placed on engaged scholarship and translational research and their impact on the community.
Presentation Tracks

Partnerships for Education – K-12 partnerships, mentoring, tutoring, summer youth programs, STEM initiatives, health care and wellness, colleges/universities partnerships with K-12 in variety of disciplines, college access/preparedness, achievement gap
Healthy Communities – wellness and public health projects and possibilities including working with the elderly, health care, training and development, public policy, health disparities, organizational and individual capacity building
Economic Development and Revitalization – to include workforce development, entrepreneurship, minority business development, extending the university’s reach through Economic Development, technology transfer and business start-ups, neighborhood revitalization
Environmental Initiatives – including green space and urban land use, community gardening, environmental education, green technology, brownfields remediation, sustainable community development

The Conference Committee will evaluate proposals with regard to relevance to the conference theme and the significance of the topic to the mission of the Coalition. Notification letters will be sent electronically by May 15, 2013 to the lead presenter. All presenters must be registered for the conference and are expected to pay all related costs. Presenters are invited to submit papers to the editor of the Metropolitan Universities journal for possible publication.
