Job Announcement: Child Care Policy Associate

Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) is Southeastern Pennsylvania’s leading child advocacy and public policy organization, dedicated to improving the lives and life chances of children in the city, region and state. Founded in 1980, PCCY is an independent, non-profit organization.

PCCY is seeking a full-time Child Care Policy Associate. He or she will work with the Director of Child Care and Budget Policy to conduct research and develop and implement advocacy strategies focused on improving the quality of child care for all children, particularly low-income children, and improving access to child care for working families.

Specific Duties:

In collaboration with the Child Care Director, the Associate will:

• Expand the infrastructure for early care and education and support it in the five Southeastern Pennsylvania counties.

• Participate in meetings with legislators to advocate for increased funding and other early childhood issues.

• Staff briefings and seminars to inform elected officials and other constituent groups about early care and education. Prepare testimony for legislative committees on these issues.

• Conduct research, write reports and develop advocacy materials, including position papers, flyers and policy briefs.

• Staff the Southeastern Pennsylvania Early Childhood Coalition, a regional advocacy coalition.

• Maintain a list serve and child care contact lists.

• Participate in local, regional and statewide meetings to disseminate public policy information.

Additional Qualifications:
The Child Care Policy Associate must have at least three years’ experience in applied research, public policy, and/or advocacy. Knowledge of the child care system is preferred but not required. A Master’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
