Free Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference Planned for Saturday, April 12

The second annual Single Mothers’ Conference will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at B. Reed Henderson High School, 400 Montgomery Avenue, West Chester. Local organizations are hosting the event, and invite any and every single mother to attend free of charge.

The day will run from 8am to 3pm and will include breakfast and lunch, free childcare for the day, guest speakers, fitness classes, budgeting advice, a car maintenance clinic, and – most importantly – a chance to learn from other single mothers and their experiences.

Matrie Johnson, Shared Housing Program Coordinator at PA Home of the Sparrow, is a member of the event’s planning committee.  According to Johnson, “Many of us have encountered phenomenal single women parenting their children to the best of their abilities with limited support and resources. Today’s unsteady economic climate has created greater challenges for single mothers.  This conference is designed to encourage, educate, and empower single mothers regarding issues that affect their role as sole provider for the family.”

Mistress of Ceremonies for the event is Ms. Nelly Jiménez-Arévalo (pictured at right). Ms. Jiménez-Arévalo serves as the Maternal and Child Health Consortium Kennett Square Family Center Director and Community Relations Director.   She received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chester County Women’s Commission last April for her outstanding contributions to services to women in Chester County.

This year’s conference theme is “Taking Care of Mommy” and features special door prizes, including a chance to be pampered.  See the conference Facebook page for more information at http://facebook.com/SingleMothersCC.  Single mothers may register for free online at http://wcuconfservices.ticketleap.com/ccsmc2014/.
