Chesapeake Bay Trust Accepting Applications for Fisheries, Outreach, and Restoration Grant Programs
Deadline: December 4, 2009

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is a private nonprofit organization that makes grants to promote public awareness of and participation in the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.

The trust is accepting applications for the following grant programs:

The Fisheries and Headwaters Grant Program is designed to promote the restoration of living resources of the Chesapeake Bay, its rivers, and its streams from the headwaters to the main stem of the bay. This year, requests may be made in two tracks. The Sportfish Restoration Track (Maryland only) will fund various project types, including riparian restoration, streambank stabilization, stream restoration, wetland creation and improvement, fish passage, and dam removal to improve habitat for sportfish. The Headwaters Track (entire Bay watershed) will fund various project types, including fish passage, dam removal, riparian restoration with an in-stream component, stream restoration, or other restoration projects that improve headwaters habitat for NOAA species of interest. Grant requests of up to $75,000 each will be considered.

The Outreach and Community Awareness Grant Program, formerly the Outreach Track of the Stewardship Grant Program, is designed to engage Maryland citizens in activities that raise public awareness and participation in the restoration and protection of the Chesapeake Bay and its in-flowing rivers. Grants will range from $5,001 to $20,000.

The Restoration Grant Program (formerly the Restoration Track of the Stewardship Grant Program) encourages on-the-ground restoration activities that demonstrate restoration techniques and engage Maryland citizens in the restoration and protection of the Chesapeake Bay and its in-flowing rivers. Grant amounts will range from $5,001 to $25,000 for projects not based on, consistent with, or identified in a watershed plan, and from $5,001 to $50,000 for projects based on, consistent with, or identified in a watershed plan.

The trust welcomes grant requests from 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organizations; faith-based organizations; community associations; service, youth, and civic groups; municipal, county, regional, state, and federal public agencies; soil/water conservation districts and resource conservation and development councils; forestry boards and tributary teams; and public and independent higher educational institutions.
