Part of the goal of the Sunday Suppers is to introduce families to healthier ways to prepare and cook food, introduce fresh and new foods, build cooking skills and enhance confidence in the kitchen. When doing demonstrations or creating the weekly meal, ingredients should be affordable and accessible and the recipes simple and straightforward using equipment families are likely to have in their homes. This is a part time hourly position with weekly hours not to exceed 15. The chef works with and is supervised by the Director.

Responsibilities include:

• Establish and maintain relationships with restaurants, vendors, and supermarkets in order to solicit donations of fresh produce, proteins, kitchen equipment and pantry items.
• Pick up donated items and integrate into weekly menu (often with limited lead time).
• Plan menus (recipes to be provided to Program Coordinator 2 days prior to supper)
• Meet regularly with the Sunday Suppers team
• Follow all guidelines as part of our relationship with our partner site.
• Prepare all food; manage kitchen volunteers
• Carry out dinner service
• Ensure kitchen is thoroughly cleaned, everything is put away and trash is removed.
• Conduct regular cooking demonstrations designed to equip families with the skills and knowledge to cook healthy meals at home more regularly (with parents and teens)
• Develop classes and programs designed to build skills and to encourage greater participation in Sunday Suppers

Skills/Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have knowledge of food preparation, serving, kitchen procedures and safety.
• Interest in soliciting food donations.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm about cooking accessible and affordable meals is highly preferred.
• Must be Safe Serve certified.
• Must have a car, valid driver’s license and insurance.
