A ‘Gem in Germantown’ celebrates 40th anniversary

Center in the Park, a community center that promotes positive aging and fosters community connections for older adults (55+), will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a series of events during September, which is National Senior Center Month.

Accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers, a unit of the National Council on Aging, CIP provides a variety of programs, activities and services for its membership of more than 6,000 and its 1,000 homebound clients.

In honor of the anniversary, CIP has published its 40th anniversary cookbook, Delicious Gems from Center in the Park, and will hold an Open House at the Center on Friday, September 19th, followed by a Jazz Concert the same evening at the Loeb Center at Germantown Friends School. Highlighting the concert, produced by Warren Oree, will be The Barbara Walker Story, the Edgardo Cintron Latin Jazz Band, the UCC Royal Brass Band; and the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble.

On Saturday, September 20th, the Center will hold a Community Festival in Vernon Park.

Other events include the resumption of classes with popular instructors, including performing and visual artists Monette Sudler-Honesty, Jim Wallace and Barbara Bullock; a very special classical concert presented by Astral Artists and funded by Lincoln Financial  on Wednesday, September 17th at 1:00pm, featuring Lidia Kaminska on Classical Accordion; Doug O’Connor on Classical Saxophone; and Michael Mizrah on Piano.

Center in the Park is located at 5818 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia, with off street parking available on the lot at Rittenhouse & McCallum Streets.  For more information, email Lynn Fields Harris (lharris@centerinthepark.org), call 215-848-7722 or click here.
