Carnegie Community Engagement Classification Webinar and Q&A with John Saltmarsh & Georgina Manok

It is specifically designed for campuses that are in the process of putting together their application – for first-time and re-classification – for the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification.

As we approach the April 15, 2019 deadline of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification application, the Swearer Center team, the administrative home of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, is hosting this webinar to offer some last thoughts and answer any questions you may have at this stage.

Meet the Presenters:

John Saltmarsh is Professor of Higher Education in the Department of Leadership in Education in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He has published widely on community engaged teaching, learning, and research, and organizational change in higher education, including, the co-edited book with Mathew Johnson, The Elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification: Constructing a Successful Application for First-Time and Re-Classification Applicants (2017).

He is a Distinguished Engaged Scholar at the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University, where he leads the project in which the Swearer Center serves as the administrative and research partner with the Carnegie Foundation for elective Community Engagement Classification. He is also a Visiting Scholar with College Unbound in Providence, Rhode Island. From 2005-2016 he served as the Director of the New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE). From 1998-2005 he was the director of the national program on Integrating Service with Academic Study at Campus Compact.

Georgina Manok is the Assistant Director for Research and Assessment at the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. As part of her role, she manages the Center’s College & University Engagement Initiative (CUEI), which includes the research and administration of the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification and several other national assessment instruments to measure inputs and outputs of campus community engagement. In the last 2 years, Manok contributed to the revision of the 2020 framework and the design of the online application portal , and co-facilitated regional and national Carnegie Classification workshops and webinars. Manok is a contributing author in the edited volume The Elective Carnegie Community Engagement Classification: Constructing a Successful Application for First-Time and Re-Classification Applicants (2017). She is also a member of the editorial team for Gateways: International Journal of Community Research and Engagement.
