Career Counselor for First Year Students, Drexel University

The Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) at Drexel University, which provides exceptional service in both cooperative education and career services, is a fast-paced, pivotal department of the University.

Under the general direction of Associate Director for Career Services, the Career Counselor for First Year Students will assist new freshman and transfer students as they transition to undergraduate life at Drexel University. The First Year Career Counselor will develop programming to outreach to all new students, acquainting them with the services available through the Steinbright Career Development Center. The First Year Career Counselor will also work with individual students to address their specific needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with first year students to evaluate major field of study, clarify career goals, and formulate plans to achieve those goals. This may be on an individual basis as well as for specific groups through special presentations and workshops. Populations served include new and transfer undergraduate students.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement programming to introduce first year students to the services available through Steinbright such as workshops, student panels, and employer presentations.
  • Collaborate with EMSS departments including Enrollment Management and Student Life to coordinate programming for first year students. Coordinate Steinbright participation in first year activities including the Academic Fair and Welcome Week. Work with academic departments, student organizations, and EMSS colleagues to develop and implement additional first year student events.
  • Develop marketing strategy and collaborate with EMSS Marketing & Communication to inform first year students of events, information sessions, workshops and other activities. Provide targeted information designed to assist with transition/adjustment questions.
  • Collect, review, and analyze data to assess program effectiveness and to implement changes to better serve first year students.
  • During peak periods assist with a range of recruiting-related activities as assigned or required. This may include but is not limited to greeting and hosting employers for information sessions on campus, contributing to the activities of the Career Fair Committee, and other special events that support individuals’ job search efforts.
