Journal Call for Submissions

The International Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IJRSLCE) is a peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to the publication of research focused on advancing the study and practice of service-learning,and campus-community engagement in primary, secondary, and higher education.  A publication of the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement, the IJRSLCE aims to be international in scope, including articles from within and outside the U.S.; rigorous, with afocus on critical analyses of the field and the presentation of high quality research studies; comprehensive, incorporating new and cutting-edge issues in the field, theoretical discussions, and critical reviews; inclusive of a variety of settings, including K-12 education, higher education, and community-based programs; multi-disciplinary, drawing on methodologies and contributions from a variety of fields (e.g. education, English, counseling and developmental psychology, political science, sociology, public health, urban planning, the arts, and others).

The journal is published annually in English.  Submissions from researchers and other professionals from non-U.S. settings are encouraged.

The IJRSLCE is currently seeking articles/manuscripts for its 2014 issue for publication in fall 2014. Types of articles and manuscripts sought include:

Research Articles reporting on the findings from empirical studies of service-learning, community engagement and/or related civic education and civic engagement efforts.  Research articles should be well-grounded in the relevant research literature and present well-designed methodology, evidence-based findings based on quantitative or qualitative research. Articles must be research-based and linked to broader theoretical or research-based questions; those that are primarily program descriptions or descriptions of service-learning/community engagement practices will not be accepted.

  • Theoretical or Conceptual Articles examining the theoretical or conceptual bases of service-learning and civic engagement.
  • Review Articles. Including reports of meta-analyses, that take a critical look at findings and practices in the fields of service-learning and community engagement to assess the state of knowledge in the field and/or the significance of existing literature.
  • Book Reviews.  The Journal will also welcomes reviews (1500 words or less) of recent publications in the field that advance the study and research of service-learning and community engagement.
