National Symposium on Mathematics Teacher Retention

March 22-24, 2012
Los Angeles, CA

The California Mathematics Project (CMP), a statewide network of 19 regional sites on university campuses funded to provide professional development for teachers of mathematics, pre-K to university, will sponsor a national symposium on Mathematics Teacher Retention to be held March 22-24, 2012, at a hotel near the Los Angeles International Airport. The “Save the Date” flyer can be found at: http://cmpstir.cmpso.org.

Ten of the 19 CMP sites have participated in CMP Supporting Teachers to Increase Retention (CMP STIR) since 2007, a five-year Improving Teacher Quality Grant funded by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. The Symposium will provide an opportunity for any individual or project that focuses on key components of mathematics teacher retention to share their expertise and knowledge. Strands for the symposium are: Mathematics Content and Pedagogy, Models of Support, Teacher Leadership, Communities of Practice, Research, and Policy.

An online speaker application and additional information about the Symposium are available at http://cmpstir.cmpso.org/mtrs-2012.

The proposal submission deadline is July 15, 2011.
