Building Resiliency: The Role of Anchor Institutions in Sustaining Community Economic Development

Posted by on November 12, 2012

We are inviting you to a forum on “Building Resiliency: The Role of Anchor Institutions in Sustaining Community Economic Development.” This event, which is being organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of University Partnerships, and Widener University, will discuss partnerships between universities and small cities. The forum will be held at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Lathem Hall, on Potter Street at 13th Street. Lunch will be included.

The forum will focus on tools and strategies for building resiliency in small, formerly industrial cities. This topic was the subject of a recent special report, “In Philadelphia’s Shadow: Small Cities in the Third Federal Reserve District,” published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. The forum is structured to provide an in-depth discussion of how cities and universities can work together to improve local communities for their mutual benefit. Presenters and participants will have the chance to explore the opportunities and challenges of building and maintaining these partnerships.

We are requesting your participation because of your leadership role in your community. We know that you will add value to the discussion, and we hope that you will be able to attend.

Please view the agenda and register for the forum, which is free of charge, by Thursday, November 15, 2012. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Amy Lempert at amy.lempert@phil.frb.org or 215-574-6570.
