BEyond Expectations, Engaging Males of Color

Posted by First Person Arts on February 21, 2016

I wanted to alert you to a Storytelling Event on April 4 at Girard College. BEyond Expectations, Engaging Males of Color is a co-production of First Person Arts and the City of Philadelphia DBHIDS. We encourage you to participate by advertising in the Event Program. 2,000 copies will be printed and distributed to attendees.

BEyond Expectations, Engaging Males of Color is a one-of-a-kind storytelling series celebrating the lives and experiences of males of color in Philadelphia. Everyday males of color share a spotlight with celebrity storytellers. Together, all perform powerful personal tales that shatter misconceptions and give voice to their strength and resilient spirit.

Joined by Yazz the Greatest, best known for his role as Hakeem Lyon in the Fox TV series, Empire, a group of student storytellers will share personal tales that shatter misconceptions and celebrate the resilient spirit of young males of color, i.e., African American, Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, bi-racial, etc.

Past BEyond Expectations celebrities include: Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter of The Roots, Super Bowl Champion Raheem Brock, DJ Rich Medina, musician Bilal, and hip-hop artist Freeway.

The deadline to reserve an ad space is March 4; the deadline for artwork is March 11. This will be a great event, a great way to get your company/organization’s message in front of local students and their families, and an important way to support this vital program serving Philadelphia’s young people.
