Join Media Tank’s Board of Directors

Media Tank is pleased to announce that it is currently accepting applications for board positions. If you live in the Philadelphia area and are interested in changing our nation’s profit-driven, corporate-controlled media system, then Media Tank wants YOU to consider joining with like-minded folks on its board of directors. We invite you to nominate yourself (or someone you know) to help build the movement for media justice and reform!

Media Tank is a non-profit media education organization working to provide communities with tools and resources to understand and participate in critical decisions about our nation’s media system and culture. Our programs encourage people to think critically about the media and have a voice in the development of a more democratic and socially responsible media system. Through community media education, public events, and grassroots organizing Media Tank is helping to broaden the movement for media democracy at a local and national level.

In the few years since our inception, we have emerged as a model organization in our field. By joining the Media Tank board, you have a unique opportunity to help define and be part of an emerging new social movement for media change!

The Media Tank board currently meets monthly. Aside from attending meetings, responsibilities include:
* Helping to set organizational priorities and goals
* Participating on a board committee
* Providing financial oversight of the organization
* Assisting with fundraising

We are seeking individuals with a broad range of knowledge and experience. Do you have knowledge in any of these areas?
* Non-profit administration and operations
* Philadelphia’s cultural philanthropic, political and/or activist communities
* Program and event planning, strategic planning
* Movements for independent media, media democracy or media reform

Media issues affect ALL people, particularly those most marginalized in mainstream society. Media Tank seeks to nurture diverse new leadership on these issues, and strongly encourages women, young people, people of color, LGTBQ, seniors and other traditionally underrepresented individuals to apply. Prior board experience a plus but not essential.
