The Associate Director of Development (ADD) will assist the Divisional Director of Development in providing leadership to the Development Department’s staff, functions, and initiatives in relation to The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia (primary focus) and in support of the field (corps, service units) outside Philadelphia (secondary).

The ADD will provide consultation to corps and units within the city and serve as their liaison in development-related matters. The ADD also provides development leadership support to the Advisory Board as directed by the DDD.

The ADD directly supervises and provides strategic direction, under the guidance of the DDD, to all Donor Relations Directors (major gifts officers), the Major Gifts Associate, Director of Foundation & Gov’t. Relations (grants), Director of Corporate Relations, Events and Marketing Coordinator, and the Director of Planned Giving and planned giving staff, ensuring compliance with the parameters of their positions, and providing support and direction in the crafting and achievement of their goals and objectives.

Requirements: B.A. Degree with at least eight years professional experience in fund raising, with successful history of increasing responsibilities and good breadth of experience in various fund raising disciplines, particularly those outlined in this job description.

Must be committed to and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army and must have a passion for the role of resource development in furthering that mission.

Must have strong grasp of the specific disciplines within development (i.e. major gifts, planned giving, stewardship, direct marketing, corporate giving, special events, foundation giving, marketing and PR, capital campaigns, board development, etc.) and have strategic vision for resource development in these areas, especially those areas to be directly supervised. Must have especially strong experience related to major gifts development, stewardship, and grants/sponsorships development.

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to relate effectively with professionals and leaders in the community as well as with key stakeholders in The Salvation Army. Must be well-organized and capable of managing and inspiring professional and support staff, with minimum five years of supervisory experience. Must be computer proficient, able to travel for various meetings, willing to network with philanthropic decision-makers and flexible on scheduling to accommodate outside constituents and events as well as internal needs.
