Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Invites Applications for Artists & Communities Program
Deadline: December 4, 2006

The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (<a href="http://www.midatlanticarts.org/">http://www.midatlanticarts.org/</a>) is accepting applications for Artists & Communities, a program that offers support for partnerships between visiting creative artists (choreographers, composers, poets, writers, filmmakers, media, and visual artists of all kinds) and nonprofit organizations engaged in community-based creative projects.

The program supports one- to six-month residencies by visiting artists from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania at organizations located in the region served by MAAF (i.e., Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and West Virginia).

The program is designed to provide opportunities for professional artists to partner with nonprofit organizations in projects that result in the creation of new work and involve active cultural participation by members of the host community. Nonprofit organizations apply in partnership with the artist(s) they wish to host in the residency described in the application. The project must be designed collaboratively by the artist and the host organization.

The host organization must be a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation or a unit of government and be located in the region served by MAAF. College and university departments, school programs, et cetera are also eligible to apply, but the project proposal must include substantive participation from outside the college, university, or school population itself.

Artists & Communities grants usually range from $5,000 to $20,000 each and must be matched on a 1:1 basis.

Visit the MAAF Web site for complete program information, application procedures, and directories of community artists and host organizations.
